1963 - 11th World Jamboree - Marathon, Greece

In 1963, 14'000 Scouts from 89 countries gathered for the 11th World Jamboree on the historic battlefield of Marathon, Greece. Heat and dust were the outward characteristics of the great camp under the motto "Higher and Wider." On the grounds was an amphitheater with 20,000 seats. The Philippine contingent of 22 scouts died in a plane crash on their way to the jamboree.
